Click for a better picture.]<\/p>\n<p>Before I get to the pictures, I wanted to mention that I got to use a new Canon 60DA for these shots. This is a camera designed with astrophotography in mind. The mirror-release is extremely quiet, there is very low light during shooting and it is more sensitive in several wavelengths of interest to astronomers. I&#8217;m seriously considering buying one.<\/p>\n<p>So the one bad thing was that we had to use a cable release instead of an intervalometer or a computer. That meant someone had to monitor the shots. Almost all of them were made up of 3 3 minute exposures at ISO 3200.<\/p>\n<p>The first object we went to was the Leo Triplet (M65, M66 and NGC 3628). M65 is the lower one. It has a recent supernova in it. It&#8217;s the star on the left side of the galaxy.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Leo-Triplet.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-458\" alt=\"Picture saved with settings embedded.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Leo-Triplet-1024x770.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"526\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Leo-Triplet-1024x770.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Leo-Triplet-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nNext, I went to nearby M95 and M96. I was hoping to get M105 in there as well, but it didn&#8217;t make it in:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M95-and-M96.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-459\" alt=\"Picture saved with settings embedded.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M95-and-M96-1024x712.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"487\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M95-and-M96-1024x712.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M95-and-M96-300x208.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M95-and-M96.jpg 1587w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I went to M101 next. This was four shots. The other bright galaxy, NGC 5474 intrigued me. Turns out it&#8217;s a dwarf galaxy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M1011.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-469\" alt=\"Picture saved with settings embedded.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M1011-1024x704.jpg\" width=\"701\" height=\"481\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M1011-1024x704.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M1011-300x206.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 701px) 100vw, 701px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Markarian&#8217;s Chain was next. I did four shots here. There is a huge number of galaxies visible in here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Markarians-Chain.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-462\" alt=\"Picture saved with settings embedded.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Markarians-Chain-1024x682.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Markarians-Chain-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Markarians-Chain-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>M104, the Sombrero Galaxy came next. In spite of the wide field, the Sombrero shape is clear.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M104.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-461\" alt=\"Picture saved with settings embedded.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M104-1024x757.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"517\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M104-1024x757.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M104-300x222.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M104.jpg 1062w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next came M51 and its companion NGC 5195.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M51.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-457\" alt=\"Picture saved with settings embedded.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M51-1024x756.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"516\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M51-1024x756.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M51-300x221.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M51.jpg 1092w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I then did M16, the Eagle Nebula (four shots). I think these were my best shots of the night.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M8-and-M201.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-471\" alt=\"M8 and M20\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M8-and-M201-1024x682.jpg\" width=\"699\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M8-and-M201-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/M8-and-M201-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 699px) 100vw, 699px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then I did the Pipe Nebula, in Ophiuchus. On reflection, this would&#8217;ve been better in the 200mm, but I got a great shot of the bowl portion of this dark nebula. This was only two shots.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Pipe-Nebula.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-472\" alt=\"Pipe Nebula\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Pipe-Nebula-1024x682.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Pipe-Nebula-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Pipe-Nebula-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI did the North America Nebula next. I tried this out the last time I was here and wanted to compare. This was only two shots.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/North-America-Nebula.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-463\" alt=\"North America Nebula\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/North-America-Nebula-1024x682.jpg\" width=\"701\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/North-America-Nebula-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.joebohanon.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/North-America-Nebula-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 701px) 100vw, 701px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI ended the night with M13. This was just a single shot! Totally\u00a0 worth the money.
